Exciting times for the hall

Despite a slight gap in the formal committee meeting schedule, the committee have been meeting regularly to examine and discuss the latest developments in the plans for the hall.  Two members have also taken part in meetings with a wide range of interested parties at Broadland District Council, and also updated the Parish Council on progress.

Briefly, Viking & Flagship Housing Associations are interested in developing the necessary housing on the site to generate income that will enable us to build the hall.  The idea is that their developer would also develop (build) our hall to our specifications, according to the revised plans we have been working on with our architect, Ian Malton of CAM Architects in Norwich.  It would be considerably cheaper to have the construction on the site under the management of one developer, particularly to get all the groundwork done at once.

The number of houses on the site has been increased slightly in order to provide enough funds, and the plans are being revised to accommodate all the essential items associated with our project as a community centre,  as well as tweaking our design for the hall itself.  The space surrounding the hall needs to include the statutory number of car parking spaces for the capacity of the hall, the play spaces, sports area, garden for the War Memorial, a community vegetable garden, as well as an area for the recycling bins and hopefully a community composting scheme.

We are now working with all the partners concerned to finalise the scheme in accordance with all the feedback you have given us over the last few years, the questionnaires, the interviews, the focus groups, the photo diaries…  Once this is done Broadland Council will hold a formal Consultation in the village where everyone will be invited to view the plans, ask questions, discuss them and make their views known.  We anticipate this will take place in the second half of September.
