Great Witchingham Jubilee Wood

Come and plant the Great Witchingham Jubilee Wood

Earlier this year we applied for a pack of saplings from the Woodland Trust to help celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by planting a new wood behind the area designated for our new village hall. In September we heard our application was successful, and November will see the start of our great Tree Planting event!

The existing trees are mainly oak and blackthorn, so we decided to apply for the All-Year Colour pack, consisting of hawthorn, hazel, birch, rowan, cherry and dogwood. We will plant some of the saplings in the hedges round the site and most of the rest in the area for the wood starting on Monday 12th November. To help everyone get involved, but not make it too hard work for the core volunteers, we will be planting on Monday, Thursday and Saturday mornings from then on. With luck it will take less than two weeks, but if necessary we will continue as long as the weather allows.
